Tom and I went to Newport, OR this weekend for the ATF-OR Union Winter school and Zuul got to tag along. We drove through Corvallis so I could see the OSU campus and then along Highway 20. It was icy and we had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing a suburban lose control and slide off the road in front of us.
When we arrived at the hotel on Friday the sun was shining and it felt relatively warm (it has been 26 degrees in P-Town for the last few weeks). We all went down to the beach where Zuul actually got her feet wet in the waves (keep in mind this is the dog that will not walk in puddles) and ran around in the sand. She tasted the salt water and quickly decided that it tasted bad. She did, however, like the sea foam. It was beautiful sunset and we took lots of pictures.
Before we went to sleep Friday night Tom and Zuul went back down to the beach to chase flocks of little white birds that were running down the beach. Zuul seemed to enjoy putting her hunting skills to use. Friday night Zuul did her tumbling routine in her travel crate while we were sleeping. I woke up to her face right next to mine with her upright in her crate. She didn't seem to be able to settle down in her crate, so Tom let her out so she could sleep on her bed we brought with us. She went to sleep. A few hours later I woke up to the sound of her yarking. In my half asleep state I tried to get her to yark in a paper bag. Needless to say I ended up making a big mess. Yummo!
Saturday Zuul spent most of the day alone in our hotel room outside of her crate. She was awesome! She didn't chew on anything, get into her food, or get on the bed. I was impressed. We would eventually like to let Zuul have free-range of our bedroom while we are at work, so this is a good sign. Zuul got to go back to the beach Saturday. She found a tasty, black bra that she proudly dragged around. I hope she doesn't get any ideas now that we are back home!
We drove back Sunday along Hwy 18. It was far less scary.
Monday Tom and I stayed home because it snowed. We took Zuul to the park. She and Tallulah played with snowballs and ate snow. It was adorable. Tom and I spent the rest of the day running errands and working on our closet.

Kibble!
Zuul has learned to speak on command. What started out as singing the Kibble song turned into a simple command, Kibble!
The Kibble song also turned Zuul onto singing. She made her debut performance last night for her Grandfather Bob, singing Happy Birthday in perfect harmony with Megan and me.
Zuul was styling her cool new Milk-Bone neckerchief last night, courtesy of her Grandfather Ladd. If you are, or know, a representative of Milk-Bone, or parent company Del Monte Foods, Zuul would love to hear from you regarding promotional appearances. Milk-Bone. Megan cried during this commercial, btw. Milk-Bone.
Last week Zuul prepared a nice leg salad at my sister's house.
Zuul is mere days away from her 8 month birthday. Crazy! Look how tall she is getting:
Nothing much else to report except that It's cold. Damn cold.

Feeling better
After a round of antibiotics, Zuul seems to be doing much better.
Who knows if the antibiotics did the trick or she healed on her own.
Zuul has an appointment on Monday to see a vet in Wilsonville to discuss her ovariohysterectomy. Good times.
Zuul is doing extraordinarily well in her crate during the day. I still come home at lunch to feed her and she does not make a peep when I come through the door. I think the pop-up crate and trip to Phoenix did wonders for her separation anxiety. I'm sure the weekend crating helps too.
No pics. Too dark in this part of the world. Worry not, she's still cute.

Zuul is back from Phoenix
Zuul spent an exciting winter holiday in ever-sunny Phoenix visiting her Grandparents and Aunties.
The three of us jumped in the car and hunkered down for a long drive.
Read more about Zuul's trip!
The drive was surprisingly pleasant. I must say that driving via Nevada was much more relaxing than jockeying down I-5 through Central California. Zuul did great. I covered the back seat with her blankets (thanks Nana!) and she seemed pleased. She spent most of the time dozing or checking out the scenery. I'm not feeling especially loquacious today. I'll let the pictures do the talking.Zuul's first snow!
Zuul's second snow!
Zuul trying to find that snowball I threw.
Zuul is definitely not a Labrador. That's our bag of food in the car. She is stretched out and sleeping.
A park in Sparks. A Sparks park! Sarsgaard SARS Guard!
Zuul pants! This is a first. Seriously.
"How may I help you?"
Zuul picked up a premium sweater courtesy of her mother's fine 90s fashion sense. Thanks 90s!
"Why yes, I do."
I can't remember who took which pictures. I'm sure the good ones are mine and those involving a dog butt are by Megan. Figure out where Zuul was by going to her Picasa album and looking at the map in the lower left of your screen.
Zuul picked up a bug while in Phoenix. She starting coughing after we returned home last weekend. It was mild until yesterday when it really picked up and she was producing some goodies. She coughed most of the night :( I let her out at about 5:30am this morning and she coughed up a big mess of mucous. Megan took her to the vet this morning and Zuul should be back to normal within a few days. She's cute when she coughs so I know she'll be fine.
I hope everyone had a great holiday! I know we did.
